In episode 22 of “Diary of CHRO,” João Ricardo interviews Dr. Rosalind F. Cohen, or Dr. Roz, a San Francisco-based “connectifier” — in her own words, someone who “helps organizations build inclusive, radically connected cultures of belonging that benefit individuals and drive business growth.
She is also the author of the book “The Engagement Dilemma: How to Create a Culture of Belonging.”
In this video, Dr. Roz discusses misconceptions about belonging and engagement. She also explores the different types of engagement and identifies factors that consistently predict high engagement across industries.

Additionally, she provides insights on how to start increasing engagement with just a few resources, along with small moves that help. “When someone says to you they don’t agree, or someone says to you that they have a different opinion, say to them, ‘Say more, help me see what you see.’ What that does is it invites a dialogue. It invites a conversation. It engages the person in a conversation in a way that gives them an opportunity to share either their expertise, their experience, or their perspective. It does two things: one, it brings the person into the conversation, and if you’re in a group, it allows people to see that, ‘Ah, this manager really does care about what I have to say.’”
“I think if you ask that question, ‘Tell me more, help me see what you see,’ you engage the dialogue, you engage the person in such a way that you start to create this foundation that really does impact engagement.”
